Four New Evenblox Inserts: Stepper Motors, Breadboards, and a TB6600 Driver

Four new Inserts are now available, and they all come out of the same corner of my workshop: stepper motor experiments and the breadboarding that goes with them.

2×2 Stepper motor mount NEMA 17

To test a NEMA 17 stepper motor, it needs a place to sit. This 2×2 Insert holds the motor for testing. You probably never mount this in a box, but you also can use this on 2020 aluminum extrusion. Use M3 countersunk screws, 10 mm length, to mount the stepper motor. Countersunk screws matter here: they keep the head flush so nothing sticks up into the box.

3×3 Motor Driver TB6600

The TB6600 is a common stepper driver. This 3×3 Insert is made for the Qwork WB10965 version. Mount the driver with an M4 nut and bolt.

One thing to be aware of: the front of the driver is slightly tapered. If you mount it with the text at the top, the driver sits a little higher on the terminal side. This is normal, not a printing error.

3×2 Breadboard

Not everything has to be a finished build. Sometimes you want a breadboard in a box while you are still trying to understand the circuit. This 3×2 Insert takes a small breadboard and mounts it with double-sided tape. Most breadboards already have that tape on the back when you buy them.

5×3 Double Breadboard

When one breadboard is not enough, this 5×3 Insert holds two breadboards clicked together. Again, double-sided tape does the mounting.

In the example on the Inserts page, one power bar is moved from the middle to the side. That small change frees up enough width to mount an ESP VROOM board on the breadboard, which is otherwise a tight fit. Worth remembering if you work with the wider ESP boards.

Why these four

Together, these Inserts cover a full stepper motor test setup: the motor itself, the driver, and a breadboard to wire up the control side. That is exactly what I was building when I designed them.
